MAGNETIC SURVEYS

OVERVIEW

After extensive testing, Flightec introduced a UAV based Magnetometer Survey solution in 2020. The core component is a Geometrics MagArrow which allows samples to be taken every centimetre at a flight speed of 10m/s while a magnetic base station records diurnal variations. The MagArrow is the first ever 1000Hz UAV-enabled magnetometer and Flightec is one of a limited number of companies offering its services.

The MagArrow sets a new standard for UAV Magnetic Surveys with:

  • Operating Principle: Optically pumped Caesium Vapor
  • Operating Range: 20,000 to 100,000 nT
  • Gradient Tolerance: 10,000 nT/m
  • Sample rate: 1000Hz, GPS synchronised every second

EXECUTION

A Drape survey is executed at a fixed distance to the terrain while adhering to aviation safety standards by maintaining a minimum clearance from hazardous objects. The flight path is tailored specifically to the selected UAV’s flight envelope, ensuring smooth profiles over undulating terrain and through turns.

UAV Benefits:

  • Smooth Profiles
  • Precise Clearance
  • Fully Autonomous
  • Minimal Sensor Oscillation
  • Minimal Line Deviation
  • Parallel Scalability
